IMU Gallery, next to Starbucks on the 1st floor of the IMU

Amir Sulaiman is an African-American and a Muslim-American, and a
talented def slam poetry artist and rapper. He is known for holding
energetic and interactive performances, having taken stage at tens of
universities across the country. Sulaiman is most famous for his
appearance on HBO’s Def Slam Poetry in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Sulaiman is a very socially-conscious artist, who uses his provocative
lyrics to address issues such as the mistreatment of women and feelings
of oppression. He tries to rouse people from their apathy about issues
that face American society by moving them with his intense and
heartfelt performances. He will discuss his work with the audience by
conducting a Q & A session.

Check out some of Amir’s work by visiting his myspace,

Amir Sulaiman’s visit is cosponsored by the Union Board and the Black
Scholars’ Collective, and partially funded through grants from the Indiana
University Student Association and the Office of Diversity Education.
